Zach Braff had been to the Emmy Awards show the night before flying into San Francisco for THE LAST KISS’ press day on August 28, 2006. With little sleep, he was still very funny and very thoughtful as he pondered the film’s themes of love, commitment, and the definition of surprise, as well as what makes for a good soundtrack. He should know about that last. He won a Grammy for the one he created for GARDEN STATE, which is probably why he was asked to create one for THE LAST KISS.
THE LAST KISS, based on the Italian film by Gabriele Muccino, but with a distinctly American flavor. Braff plays Michael, a successful architect being nudged forcefully into adulthood when his longtime girlfriend, Jenna, becomes unexpectedly pregnant, and his three best pals all start facing their own sets of issues about settling down. Friendship. love, honesty, fear, loathing, lust, and the bundt-cake theory of nature all collide as Michael attempts to come to terms with taking the next step in his life. The film co-stars Jacinda Barrett, Casey Affleck, Michael Weston, Rachael Bilson, Eric Christian Olsen, Marley Shelton, Blythe Danner, Tom Wilkinson, Harold Ramos and a Prius. It was directed by Tony Goldwyn from a script by Paul Haggis.
