Lauren Miller co-wrote the script for FOR A GOOD TIME CALL… with longtime best friend Katie Anne Naylon. When the time came to cast the comedy, though, Naylon wasn’t ready to take on such a large role, even though the part was based on her real-life experience of running a phone sex hotline. It left the door open for Graynor to join Miller on screen, and when I spoke to the pair on August 14, 2012, we talked about why Graynor was perfect for the part, what it was like taking on producing chores, and why raunchy can be sweet when telling a story about the strength of female friendship.
FOR A GOOD TIME CALL… is a story about pluck, initiative and getting past bad first impressions. Graynor plays Katie, the occupant of a dream apartment in Grammercy Park and staunch frenemy of Lauren, played by Miller. When Katie’s rent goes up, and Lauren’s boyfriend dumps her, the two are brought reluctantly together by a mutual friend, played by Justin Long, and, after Lauren learns the shocking truth Katie makes her living working a phone sex line, they both discover that they each offer the other more than half the rent. The film co-stars Mark Webber, Don McManus and Mimi Rogers, and was directed by Jamie Travis from a script by Miller and Katie Anne Naylon. Miller’s previous work includes 50/50 and SUPERBAD. Graynor’s previous work includes the pivotal turkey sandwich moment from NICK AND NORAH’S INFINITE PLAYLIST.
