Full of emotion, but never cheap sentimentality, there is a refreshing honesty in the way MISS YOU ALREADY depicts Milly’s battle with cancer, including being called out by being called a cancer bully by Jess. It’s one of the things we talked about on October 9th, 2015, as well as shopping with Jacqueline Bissett, shaving Toni Collette’s head, embracing the challenge of authenticity, dancing on the Yorkshire moors, and how the audience can get involved with bringing clean water to Africa.
MISS YOU ALREADY is a film about love, death, and procreation. Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette are Jess and Milly, lifelong friends whose lives have taken different paths with career, men, and kids, or the lack thereof, but whose bond remains unbroken. That is until Milly develops cancer, and the stress of dealing with the sudden reminder of their mortality tests the friendship and maybe even Milly’s sanity. The film co-stars Dominic Cooper, Paddy Considine, and Jacqueline Bisset as Milly’s actress mother. Hardwicke directed from a script by Morwenna Banks, and her previous work includes THIRTEEN, TWILIGHT, and THE NATIVITY STORY, which included a disturbingly hunky St Joseph, played by Oscar Isaac.
